The 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to be held in Côte d’Ivoire, featuring the release of its official anthem, “Akwaba,” meaning “welcome” in the Akan language. The track boasts a star-studded lineup including Nigerian singer Yemi Alade, Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan, and Ivorian group Magic System. Produced by French producer Dany Synthe, the song’s video premiered on Universal Music Africa.
“Akwaba” celebrates African history, people, and cultures, fostering unity and pride across the continent’s diverse nations. Its fusion of Afro-pop, rap, and zouglou reflects Africa’s rich musical tapestry. Lyrics span English, French, Arabic, and Akan, mirroring Africa’s linguistic diversity.
The anthem pays homage to iconic African figures like Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, and Thomas Sankara, as well as natural wonders such as the pyramids, the Nile, and the Kilimanjaro. It embodies the African spirit’s hope, optimism, and passion, resonating with football fans across the continent.

{Magic System}
Here we are together Like a family
To celebrate life
And in unity
We’ll laugh
We’ll even have fun
Whether you’re English-speaking
Or French-speaking
Together hand in hand
Whether you’re from the Maghreb
Or from a Portuguese-speaking country
All together
It’s the Africa of friendship
Eh oh eh oh
Eh oh eh oh
Eh oh eh oh
Eh oh eh oh
Africa
Home of hospitality
Welcome to Babi
We’re ready for you oh eh
{Yemi Alade}
We’re dancing on our piano
All the way to Soweto
There’s nothing that we can’t do
Taking over the world
All my people carry me
Moving through is the motto Blazing hot volcano
Shawty want what you got
Hakuna Matata
My brother my sister
Pour your heart with love
We’re champions Let me hear you say
{Magic System, Yemi Alade}
Eh oh eh oh
Just wanna hear you say
Eh oh eh oh
Put your hands in the air
Eh oh eh oh
It’s the best
Eh oh eh oh We will party Eh oh eh oh
Abidjan is like that

Home of hospitality
(Welcome ah)
Welcome to Babi
We’re ready for you oh eh
{Mohamed Ramadan}
Do you see people gathered in Africa?
Millions are lucky to be happy
Welcome to our continent
Strength in our union
Hope is in the eyes of our children
Its Kings throughout our lives
